A Foray into the Eclectic

On the 21st June 2011 our family took a trip to Emberton Country Park which is situated near Olney, Bucks. Now my wife and children had all been before but it was the first time for me and I have to say that I was really surprised. It was a really nice day out and I really enjoyed watching the kids discover and play.

There was a adveture hunt which the kids could do. Cleverly you could make rubbings of the plaques to take with you on the ‘hunt’. Scattered around were things you can discover and do. I really loved the benches which have fantastic engravings on them

We discovered a wonderful patch of land which had a plethora of wild flowers in it. As a result they contained tons of insects and other bugs such as damselflies, caterpillars, butterflies, ladybirds and their lavae. And loads more.

As if that wasn’t enough, there was a sand play area with mechanical diggers and climbing frames with buckets and scoops.

A bird hide so you can ‘quietly’ check out the water fowl over the lake. We saw Cormorans, crested Grebe, eggs, nesting Coots and various Ducks.

The adventure hunt was in and around a play area which had slides, roundabouts and a pirate ship amongst other apparatus.

We all had a lovely picnic and explored some more, played and had alot of fun.

Of course the one small downside was the parking fee which if you go for the whole day is a fantastic, but for a couple of hours doesn’t represent good value for money at £3.70.

So where is this fabulous place I hear you cry….well here’s some links and a map
